Band Director: Heather West
Welcome to the home of your Custer County Bobcat Band. We would like to thank you for all of your support. We appreciate the donations that have been given to us, and we thank you for supporting us in our fund raising. We especially thank you for attending our concerts. We have enjoyed going to competitions and representing our school and community. Thank you!!
When we start band in the sixth grade, we really know nothing about our instrument. We chose the instrument we think we want to learn, we work in class, and practice at home. By the end of the year we can play concert pieces together, and we march in the spring parade. In the seventh and eighth grade we form the Middle School Band. We are an intermediate band who reviews basic learning and then moves to a higher level of concert music. In the spring, we help the sixth grade band students learn to march, and we join with the high school for the spring parade. We are very proud to be in the High School Bobcat Band when we reach that level. This is where we try many difficult pieces. We learn different styles of music while we continue to keep our music basics strong. We try to add spirit to pep assemblies and games. It is at this level that we travel for concert competitions. We have traveled to CSU Pueblo and Denver. There are five ratings that are given in competition. One is a Superior, two is Excellent, three is Good, four is Fair, and five is Poor. We have recieved Excellent and Superior ratings in our outings so far. As a band during competition, it is our job to grow together as a family and play together. Teamwork and musical perfection is our goal. We follow our band director to the victory we deserve. We work hard every day.
Congratulations High School Band for competing in the Denver Competition! They got a Superior rating in the Concert Band, taking first place, and an Excellent rating in Jazz Band, also recieving first place. Also, a congratulations is in order for senior TJ O'Brian for recieving a medal for best soloist!
