Shay White

I was born and raised in New Braunfels, Texas. I attended and graduated from Gallaudet University, Washington, D.C., with a BA degree in Secondary Education and Mathematics in 1992 and Western Maryland College, Westminster, Maryland, with a MA degree in Deaf Education in 1994. I taught math for middle school and high school deaf students for 10 years at Colorado School for the Deaf and Blind in Colorado Springs.

I am married with three children - Brayson (7), Colby (5), and Dustin (3). I left my job in Springs so I could spend some time with my last child because I never had the chance to be with my first two. Also, my husband, Brent, started his business here in Westcliffe a few years ago so we had to relocate. Last year, I started working part-time as a school librarian.

My job is to provide kids(students) the opportunity to explore as many books as they would like to read.  Also, I have my library aides and parents reading to the elementary kids ( I would take this whole sentence out).  I have been teaching elementary students some basic sign language and library skills so they would have the opportunity to communicate with me and (to become more comfortable using the library)to show their knowledge in the library. I believe that developing listening, reading, and learning skills will lead students to success.
