Thank you for visiting this web site for the Custer County School District. I am extremely proud of our schools and believe that we are truly unique.  I think you will find the following list very interesting and informative:
 
1. We are a small school district (but not too small).
    a. There are 527 students enrolled in the district.
    b. We are small enough to know all of our students but large enough to offer a good variety of programs and activities.

2. Our school is K-12. 
    a. All of our students are in the same building but we have three sections within the school: elementary, middle, and high school. The younger students get to see and look up to the older students. The older students understand that they must be appropriate role models for the younger kids.
    b. We also have a pre-school serving 3-5 year old students
 
3. We are a rural school district.
    a. We love our small town values and lifestyle while being only a one hour drive from Pueblo, Canon City and Salida.

    b. Even though we are small, we have a wide variety of activities and services available to the community.

4. We operate on a four day week.
    a. Our teachers and students attend school Monday through Thursday each week.
    b. The school day is 8:00 a.m.– 4:00 p.m.
    c. Because we are rural, the shorter week allows parents and their children to travel             to the larger cities for services that are not available in Custer County.
    d. The four day week also allows us to play most out-of-town sports on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays and have less impact on school time.
 
5. We have modern facilities.
    a. Our school was expanded and remodeled in 2000-2002. A new high school wing was added to the school.
     b. A new physical education complex was completed in 2005.  It includes a new gym, weight room, wrestling room, locker rooms, offices and entry foyer/concession area.
 
6. We have very small class sizes
    a. Our average class size is 13.
 
7. We have a great staff.
    a. We have 41 highly qualified teachers, 7 of which have national certifications.
    b. We have an elementary principal and a secondary principal.
    c. We have a full time nurse and counselor.
    d. Our entire staff is focused on the success of our students.
